Über Google Maps und spezialisierte Spotter-Karten wie Spotterguide.net lassen sich die aktuell besten Standorte und Positionen recherchieren, wodurch auch seltene Maschinen und Spezialflüge optimal beobachtet werden können. Als Regierungsflughafen spielt der BER eine zentrale Rolle: Die Flugbereitschaft des Bundesministeriums der Verteidigung betreibt hier ihr Interims-Regierungsterminal, auf dem politisch-parlamentarische Flüge von Regierungsmitgliedern abgewickelt werden.
