You’ll witness a mix of takeoffs and landings, including some dramatic arrivals right over Mai Khao Beach—one of the most iconic plane spotting spots in the world. Phuket International Airport (HKT) is Thailand’s second-busiest airport and is located on the northern tip of Phuket Island, just 32 kilometers from Phuket Town. This airport plays a vital role in connecting Thailand’s largest island to destinations across Asia, the Middle East, and beyond—especially during the bustling holiday and peak tourism seasons. HKT features two terminals: Terminal 1 serves international flights, while Terminal 2 handles domestic operations. Although it has just one main runway (09/27), the airport sees a high frequency of aircraft movements—particularly widebodies from Europe, Asia, and the Middle East—making it a hotspot for aviation fans. Thai Airways, Bangkok Airways, and Thai AirAsia are among the key players at Phuket, alongside a steady stream of international carriers like Emirates, Qatar Airways, Aeroflot, and seasonal visitors such as Azur Air, TUI, and Scoot. With such a wide variety of airlines and aircraft, there’s always something exciting for spotters and travelers alike. As of 2024, Phuket International Airport ranked among Thailand’s top three airports in passenger numbers and continues to grow in popularity thanks to ongoing infrastructure improvements, rising tourism demand, and increased international routes.
