✈️ Welcome to London City Airport (LCY) — one of the most unique and technically challenging commercial airports in the UK. Located in the heart of East London’s Royal Docks, just six miles from the City of London and Canary Wharf, LCY is known for its compact layout, short runway, steep approach angles, and high-precision operations. It’s a favourite among aviation enthusiasts and a showcase of elite piloting skill. This stream captures the dynamic environment of London City, where aircraft approach at a steep 5.5-degree glide slope — nearly double the standard 3-degree angle used at most airports. The runway itself is just 1,508 metres (4,948 feet) long, requiring specially certified aircraft and trained pilots. There are no parallel taxiways, so aircraft must backtrack along the runway before departure, adding to the complexity and uniqueness of operations here. You’ll see aircraft such as the Embraer E190, E195-E2, and Airbus A220 in action. Previously, British Airways operated the A318 ‘baby bus’ with an all-business class transatlantic flight from LCY to New York JFK. Today, major airlines flying from London City include British Airways, SWISS, Lufthansa, ITA Airways, Luxair, and KLM, serving destinations like Amsterdam, Zurich, Frankfurt, Milan, Dublin, and Edinburgh.
